Welcome to my travel blog! My name is Magnus Olson and I am an 18-year-old student fresh out of high school. Instead of going to university, college, or grade 13, this year I decided I wanted to see more of the world by travelling. For the first two months of my gap year, I will be going to Siem Reap, Cambodia to volunteer at a local community centre. I wanted to share my experiences in the form of a blog for many reasons. The main reason is that I want to keep my family and friends in the loop about what is happening on my trip abroad. Another reason is that I hope this blog can open other students to the idea of taking a gap year to travel. On top of those, it's fun to write blog posts. I am still at home in Paris, Ontario, but my adventure will start tomorrow with a 16-hour flight to Hong Kong. I'm unsure of how frequently I will post on this blog and what exactly the content will be, so be prepared for anything! I want to keep this blog very casual, so do not expect quality writing or vocabulary. Keeping it basic. Feel free to share this blog with whoever. Stay tuned for more posts later, as I'm sure I'll have something to write about during my flight :D
I am not sure what time it is exactly, but I know that I am approximately 6 hours away from Hong Kong. I have composed a small list of things that I have learned on this flight so far that I feel the need to share with those who haven't been on a long flight or any flight at all. 1. Airlines have a lot of new movies on their in-flight entertainment screens. 2. If you have an aisle seat and there are people beside you near the window, tell them before take-off to wake you up if they need to go to the bathroom. Having someone crawl over you in the middle of the night (maybe day?), is gonna wake you up anyway and it's gonna be a lot more awkward when they are literally on top of you. 3. Planes are not meant to seat people with the body proportions of a flamingo. For those who want to avoid this issue and have some extra cash to burn (not me), buy the tickets for the seats beside you and enjoy your makeshift plane...
