I am not sure what time it is exactly, but I know that I am approximately 6 hours away from Hong Kong. I have composed a small list of things that I have learned on this flight so far that I feel the need to share with those who haven't been on a long flight or any flight at all.

    1. Airlines have a lot of new movies on their in-flight entertainment screens.

    2. If you have an aisle seat and there are people beside you near the window, tell them before take-off to wake you up if they need to go to the bathroom. Having someone crawl over you in the middle of the night (maybe day?), is gonna wake you up anyway and it's gonna be a lot more awkward when they are literally on top of you.

    3. Planes are not meant to seat people with the body proportions of a flamingo. For those who want to avoid this issue and have some extra cash to burn (not me), buy the tickets for the seats beside you and enjoy your makeshift plane bed!

    4. Time is meaningless on a 17-hour flight. The only two times that matter during the flight is how long you have been flying and how long you have to go until you reach your destination.

    5. Turn down the brightness on your devices before getting on the plane, so that when you open up your laptop or phone you aren't pissing off half of the passengers behind you with a blinding light. Not only does this make people upset, but there is the chance of waking up a sleeping baby or toddler, making the flight a living hell for yourself and all the other already-pissed-off passengers.

    6. Airplane neck cramps suck. Do yourself a favour and buy a neck pillow or a telescopic head stabilizer (Thank you Mr. Henrique).

    7. Try the music playlists that are made by the airline on the in-flight entertainment. I was skeptical at first, but I have already found 3 songs that are going on my playlist when I get wifi.

    8. DO NOT PUT IN AIRPODS OR OTHER WIRELESS EARBUDS IF THERE IS A CHANCE YOU WILL FALL ASLEEP WEARING THEM!!! I spent a period of 20 minutes on this flight voraciously tearing apart my seating area trying to find my missing earbud ( I found it). If you are going to fall asleep to music, use the headphones provided by the airline. They aren't as bad as you think.

    9. After you wake up on a plane, you will both feel like and look like shit. Go to the bathroom and freshen yourself up before the cabin lights turn on and everyone thinks that a raccoon boarded the plane. The dark eye circles and scruffy hair are not a good look unless you are going dumpster diving.

    10. If there is an option to have apple juice when the drinks come around, take the apple juice. Apple juice either tastes different at 12000 metres in the air or the airlines are secretly putting crack in the juice.

    11. FELLOW MEN, DO NOT STAND WHILE PEEING ON AN AIRPLANE. I do not care how easy or convenient it is, do everyone a favour and sit your ass down. I don't care who you are, you do not have to coordination to pee while the plane is making slight movements in every single direction. You will spray pee all over the bathroom, and more than likely lose your balance and smash your face off the sides of the bathroom. Peeing in such a way will not only make the bathroom nasty for the next user but probably get urine on your clothes as well.

    12. Be nice to the flight attendants. They are also on this flight and they have to work during the whole duration, so getting angry at them isn't helping anyone.

    13. Where the armrests stop is the containment zone for your things and your body. No one on a flight likes the person who dominates the armrest, and people especially don't like tripping on someone's foot or bag while doing the already-shaky walk to the bathroom.

I think this is all I have learned so far on this flight and in flights past. I will connect to the wifi in the Hong Kong airport and post this on my blog, but I'll be sure to update this if I learn more along the way.
